Pay Rate: $50 – $62/hr (DOE)

Job Type: Contract

Location: Devens, MA (Onsite)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM

Overview

We are seeking an Assembly Process Engineer to support the planning and execution of assembly operations for SPARC sub-system components. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented technical professional experienced with large or complex mechanical structures and passionate about building safe, efficient, and well‑documented assembly processes. You will work closely with engineering, system owners, and on-site assembly teams to ensure the successful integration and testing of SPARC systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed assembly plans and work instructions for handling, manipulating, and integrating SPARC sub-system components.
  • Partner with system teams to define assembly strategies, including tools, methods, sequencing, safety measures, and specifications.
  • Ensure proper tool and personnel access throughout each assembly phase.
  • Plan and validate component movements, ensuring no interference with adjacent systems.
  • Create and maintain assembly work instruction packets and integrate them into work orders to support optimal assembly and testing workflows.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts for work instruction and work order processes.
  • Collaborate closely with assembly engineers, tooling engineers, designers, coordinators, and on-site personnel throughout the Tokamak Assembly process.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • 2+ years of technical experience integrating large or complex mechanical structures (aerospace, chemical, industrial, etc.).
  • Experience developing or contributing to work instruction packets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with:
  • Metrology
  • High-vacuum systems
  • Manufacturing management software
  • NX
  • Heavy-lift operations involving components >10 tons
  • Strong attention to detail and proactive safety mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to refine and express ideas clearly.
  • Data-driven decision-making ability.
  • Focus on simplicity, clarity, and efficiency in planning.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Alignment with values: integrity, execution, impact, and self‑critique.
