Our team works closely across merchandising, product development, and operations to bring new travel solutions to market. Position Summary This role is designed for someone who wants to grow into a Buyer or Merchant. You will gain hands‑on experience in forecasting, assortment planning, contributing to product development and helping bring exclusive product offerings to market. Work directly with experienced buyers and product developers Gain hands‑on exposure to forecasting, merchandising, and product launches Opportunity to grow into a Buyer or Merchant role Collaborative team environment in a growing travel goods company Access to work with corporate recognized heritage brands Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support sales forecasting, seasonal buy plans, and purchase order (PO) creation Assist with merchandising assortments by style, color, price point, and channel Partner with Product Development on new collection development Analyze sales and inventory using Microsoft Excel Prepare reports, recaps, and presentations for internal meetings Qualifications Ability to work in‑office 5 days per week in Metuchen, NJ Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret sales and inventory data. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Experience with ERP systems, ecommerce platforms, and inventory management tools preferred. Experience creating purchase orders, inventory management, and vendor coordination Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with vendors and internal teams Bachelor’s degree, Merchandising, Retail Management, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent work experience) 1–3 years of experience in buying, merchandising, retail planning, or ecommerce merchandising preferred Department store buying/planning experience preferred (Macy's, Bloomingdale's, TJ Maxx, etc.) Merchandising & Assortment Planning: Analyzing product performance and supporting assortment strategy, SKU selection, and seasonal planning within the luggage and travel goods category Data Analysis & Reporting: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales trends, sell‑through, inventory levels, and margin performance to support buying decisions Inventory & Purchase Order Management: Experience creating purchase orders, tracking inbound inventory, and supporting replenishment to maintain healthy stock levels Vendor & Brand Management: Strong communication skills to coordinate with vendors on pricing, product availability, timelines, and new product opportunities Trend & Market Awareness: Awareness of travel, luggage, and outdoor product trends and the ability to identify emerging opportunities within the category Benefits Eligibility Health insurance Paid Time off (PTO) Employee product discounts Collaborative team environment Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Portmantos is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
