The Job

Zachys is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to support the acquisition of wine and/or spirits across all markets we serve. This role plays a key part in maintaining margin and inventory targets while helping to develop and manage a curated assortment of premium wine and spirits.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for wine, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Auction, and Retail teams.


Key Responsibilities

Buying & Category Management

  • Identify opportunities for new products and producers within assigned categories
  • Research consumer trends and market demand
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships to optimize supply chain performance
  • Analyze product pricing and positioning
  • Manage item setup and purchase order creation
  • Monitor inventory levels, sales performance, and category health
  • Maintain strong inventory turnover while operating within budget

Vendor Management

  • Negotiate product costs and payment terms
  • Monitor and manage lead times and delivery schedules
  • Source and evaluate new vendors as needed

Purchase Order Management

  • Create and maintain items and pricing for assigned product lines
  • Generate, update, and manage purchase orders for all buyers

Sales Support & Education

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned categories
  • Partner with Private Client Sales and Retail teams
  • Support internal training and product education initiatives

Marketing Support

  • Collaborate with Marketing on promotional calendar planning and execution
  • Contribute insights for email campaigns and marketing initiatives
  • Manage and organize supplier-provided marketing assets

Qualifications

Education & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of wine (required)
  • Foreign language skills are a plus

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of buying experience in the wine and spirits industry
  • Experience in high-volume B2C environments (fine wine & spirits preferred)

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus


Working Hours: 3 days in our Port Chester Office (Tuesday-Thursday)
