The Job
Zachys is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to support the acquisition of wine and/or spirits across all markets we serve. This role plays a key part in maintaining margin and inventory targets while helping to develop and manage a curated assortment of premium wine and spirits.
The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for wine, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Auction, and Retail teams.
Key Responsibilities
Buying & Category Management
- Identify opportunities for new products and producers within assigned categories
- Research consumer trends and market demand
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships to optimize supply chain performance
- Analyze product pricing and positioning
- Manage item setup and purchase order creation
- Monitor inventory levels, sales performance, and category health
- Maintain strong inventory turnover while operating within budget
Vendor Management
- Negotiate product costs and payment terms
- Monitor and manage lead times and delivery schedules
- Source and evaluate new vendors as needed
Purchase Order Management
- Create and maintain items and pricing for assigned product lines
- Generate, update, and manage purchase orders for all buyers
Sales Support & Education
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned categories
- Partner with Private Client Sales and Retail teams
- Support internal training and product education initiatives
Marketing Support
- Collaborate with Marketing on promotional calendar planning and execution
- Contribute insights for email campaigns and marketing initiatives
- Manage and organize supplier-provided marketing assets
Qualifications
Education & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of wine (required)
- Foreign language skills are a plus
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of buying experience in the wine and spirits industry
- Experience in high-volume B2C environments (fine wine & spirits preferred)
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience with NetSuite is a plus
Working Hours: 3 days in our Port Chester Office (Tuesday-Thursday)
