About this Role
The ComTran Group, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance functions. ComTran is a fiber and utility construction contractor, and this role is central to managing the financial complexities of project-based work in a fast-moving construction environment.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing month-end close processes, supporting strategic financial initiatives, and supervising accounting staff. The Assistant Controller will also serve as backup to the Controller when needed.

What You'll Do
Process weekly payroll
Assist in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, credit card receipt management, and job costing
Support month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and applicable regulations
Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and performance feedback
Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and special projects
Serve as backup to the Controller for financial reporting and department leadership
What You'll Bring
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Experience
3+ years of progressive accounting experience
Construction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred; fiber, telecom, or utility construction experience is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Experience with month-end close processes
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Experience with ERP systems (Viewpoint Spectrum preferred)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High level of integrity and attention to detail
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
Occasional lifting of materials up to 15 pounds
Ability to travel occasionally, if required
