LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a rapidly growing institutional real estate investment platform seeking an Assistant Controller to join its corporate accounting leadership team. You’ll work alongside an accomplished Controller and executive team, oversee a talented accounting staff, and play a critical role supporting a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate investments.
Responsibilities
Assist in leading the accounting and financial reporting function for a large commercial real estate investment portfolio
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of property and corporate accountants
Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for investment entities
Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes while driving continuous process improvements
Ensure compliance with GAAP and partnership accounting standards
Review complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Partner closely with Asset Management, Acquisitions, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, and Investor Relations teams
Support acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and capital transactions
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and third‑party service providers
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash management activitiesEvaluate internal controls and identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting processes
Participate in strategic initiatives and special projects as the company continues to grow
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA strongly preferred
5+ years of accounting experience with commercial real estate, private equity real estate, REIT, real estate investment management, or public accounting focused on real estate clients
Strong understanding of GAAP, partnership accounting, and investment entity structures
Experience reviewing financial statements for multiple legal entities
Leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting professionals
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment
Experience with Yardi, MRI, JD Edwards, or similar real estate accounting software is a plus
