Job Description

UHP Assistant Director of Performance

Location: UHP, 25200 Ranch Rd, Gentry, AR 72734

Job Type: Full-time, in-person

Salary Range: $65,000 – $85,000 annually

Reports To: Director of Performance

Position Overview

UHP is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Assistant Director of Performance to serve as a frontline leader of our performance coaching team. This role blends high-level coaching, team leadership, mentorship, and operational ownership within UHP’s Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) program and broader performance ecosystem.

The Assistant Director of Performance acts as the day-to-day anchor for coaching quality and culture, ensuring consistency in delivery, development of coaches and Graduate Assistants (GAs) and alignment with UHP’s performance philosophy. This position also serves as a critical liaison between the Director of Performance and the coaching staff - supporting execution, problem-solving, and team growth.

This is not simply a senior coaching role. It is a people-first leadership position for someone who values standards, communication, and developing others as much as delivering elite training experiences.

About UHP

UHP is a veteran-focused education and leadership development organization located on an 800-acre campus in Northwest Arkansas. We deliver immersive, 19-day certification programs across fitness, health, nutrition, and leadership, helping service members and veterans discover purpose and build meaningful careers after service.

Our campus includes world-class training facilities, modern housing, a health-forward kitchen, outdoor training environments, and dedicated instructional spaces designed to support deep learning and personal transformation.

As UHP continues to scale, we are building a performance leadership team committed to excellence, professionalism, and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities1. Coaching Team Leadership & Quality Control
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day leader for the performance coaching team
  • Ensure consistent coaching standards, session quality, and professionalism across all training environments
  • Observe training/education sessions and provide structured, developmental feedback
  • Support problem-solving for student issues or escalated coaching needs

The Assistant Director of Performance sets the tone for what “right” looks like.

2. Coach & GA Development
  • Conduct regular 1:1 development meetings with Performance Coaches and Graduate Assistants
  • Mentor coaches in communication, presence, programming, and leadership
  • Support professional growth pathways and readiness for increased responsibility
  • Model emotional maturity, accountability, and calm leadership under pressure

This role exists to build coaches, not just manage schedules.

3. Recruitment, Hiring & Onboarding Support
  • Lead Graduate Assistants (GAs) recruitment, including outreach, screening, interviews, and onboarding
  • Assist with hiring processes for performance staff as needed
  • Support onboarding systems to ensure new coaches integrate quickly and effectively into UHP culture
4. Instruction & Curriculum Support
  • Assist in the creation, refinement, and delivery of training modules
  • Support career pathway development for performance staff
  • Collaborate with the Director of Performance on curriculum evolution and instructional standards
5. Operational & Leadership Support
  • Act as an interim director when needed
  • Serve as a communication bridge between leadership and coaching staff
  • Support execution of department initiatives and course operations
  • Help ensure smooth day-to-day performance operations
Desired Competencies & ExperienceRequired
  • Proven experience as a performance coach with demonstrated leadership responsibility
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear, constructive feedback
  • High ownership, reliability, and professional maturity
  • Alignment with UHP’s coaching philosophy and human-centered approach
  • Certification in strength & conditioning, personal training, or a related field
Preferred
  • Experience leading or managing coaching teams
  • Experience working with military, veteran, or high-discipline populations
  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology or a related field
  • Master’s degree in exercise physiology or a related field
  • Background in education, mentorship, or curriculum development
  • Familiarity with integrative or holistic health models
What Success Looks Like
  • Coaching sessions are consistently high-quality, safe, and aligned with UHP standards
  • Coaches and GAs show clear growth in competence and confidence
  • Communication within the coaching team is clear, calm, and proactive
  • Students experience professionalism, structure, and care across all training environments
  • The performance team feels supported, challenged, and aligned
  • Leadership can trust that day-to-day execution is handled with excellence
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $65,000–$85,000, based on experience
  • 401(k)
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible scheduling when course cycles allow
  • Professional development support
  • Access to UHP facilities, including performance spaces, trails, and fitness environments
