KingCountyMetrohasanexcitingopportunityforournextAssistantGeneralManagerofFinance&Administration!Finance & Administration (F&A) are the stewards of Metros finances, technology, data and assets.
You will provide the leadership and guidance to ensure that Metro maintains the public trust through the decisions and actions of the teams in F&A.
You will also be responsible for representing these areas as part of the Senior Leadership helping to ensure that departmental decision making aligns with policies and procedures.
Overseeing approximately 80 staff and report directly to Metro's General Manager.
Finance & Administration provides enterprise level support and guidance to department leadership and also provides services to other Metro divisions.
The division is comprised of six sections:

  • Administrative Servicesprovidesadministrativesupportforthedepartment,Finance&AdministrationDivision, Equity&InclusionOffice,StrategicCommunications&Engagement,theGeneralManager,andtheDeputyGeneral Manager.
  • Asset ManagementassessesandprioritizesdepartmentneedstomaintainStateofGoodRepairofMetroassets throughtheapplicationofanAssetManagementProgramwhileensuringcompliancewithfederal,stateandother regulations.
  • Enterprise Financial Services Accounting, Contracting and Grantsprovides centralized services to support accounting, contracting and grants development and administration ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulationsandaccountingpolicy.
  • Enterprise Financial Services Financial Planning, Budget and Reportingmanages the financial planning and modeling for Metro ensuring compliance with policies and ensuring that service and other plans are grounded in financial reality, lead decision-making in the development of Metros operating and capital budgets and support ongoing financial reporting.
  • Business Intelligence & Analyticsaligns data gathering, reporting and analysis to support data driven decision- making.
  • Transit Technology Operations & Maintenancesupports and manages the technology operating model for systems specific to the Metro Transit Department, while managing transformational efforts for Metro Transit and King County Information Technology to align and deliver strategies and resources to improve how we do business every day.

As the Assistant General Manager, you will:

  • Provide strategic directionto the Finance & Administration Division and align the work performed with the vision and strategic goals of the Metro Transit Department.
  • Serve as conduit between Metro leadership and the experts within Finance & Administrationon topics including, but not limited to, finance, budgeting, asset management, technology management, internal controls, business intelligence and data analysis.
  • Manage agency performance and business intelligence,including performance and public reporting, and cross- agency director accountability.
  • Develop and oversee the division budget;determineandallocateresources.
  • Work with a variety of stakeholdersincluding internal Metro staff, King County Executive leadership and staff, City of Seattle, elected officials, law enforcement, other governmental agencies, transit customers, and the broader community to maintain current high standards of transportation.
  • Build teams and foster a positive environmentin diverse work environments while creating strong morale, instilling vision and purpose, and fostering open dialogue within the Division.
    Cultivate employee engagement and create developmental opportunities for all employees.
  • Develop relationships and treat all employees and customers equitably,with respect and dignity, as well as solve problems for the good of all.
  • Ensure that Metro has the internal capacity to provide world-class transportation servicewhile advancing the health and safety of our workforce, the strength and sustainability of our environment, and equity and social justice in our workplace and in the communities we serve.

  • High level management experience:
    • Ten years of progressively responsible work experience and/or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
    • A bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a closely related field.
    • Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
  • People leadership experience, which demonstrates:
    • Experience with building effective teams in diverse work environments while creating strong morale, instilling vision and purpose, and fostering open dialogue.
    • Interest in and ability to develop and lead direct reports, furthering people's career goals, providingchallenging and stretching tasks and assignments, and effectively developing all levels of staff.
    • Knowledge of how to build relationships and treat all employees and customers equitably, with respect and dignity, as well as solve problems for the good of all.
    • Experience working with labor and the ability to develop and nurture strong, productive relationships with union leadership, respecting established processes, and fostering an environment of mutual respect.
    • An ability to communicate well, in both oral and written communications.
  • Finance & Administration industry leadershipthrough:
    • Deep subject matter knowledge in operational decision making, budget, internal policy and other processes.
    • Ability to represent financial information to non-financial staff to further decision-making and to support staff developing financial projections.
    • Knowledge of how technology investments can be effectively managed and work with agency to ensure technology is used and managed effectively.
    • Ability to inform and support policy and program development and implementation in areas such as asset management and data analyses.
    • Act as point of contact for agency compliance and ensure effective systems of internal controls are developed and enforced
    • Knowledge about how organizations work and how to get things done both through formal channels and informal networks.
    • Ability to make complex decisions and to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably, in a capable and agile manner.
    • Ability to see clearly ahead, anticipate future consequences, effectively set priorities, and have broad knowledge, perspective, and the ability to articulate possibilities and spend time on what is important.

Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking and onsite work and meetings as needed.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.


Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
