The Assistant Housing Director supports the Housing Director by helping lead day-to-day departmental operations, ensuring programs run smoothly, funds are managed responsibly, and services are delivered in compliance with applicable requirements (including HUD and LIHTC). In a typical day, this role coordinates priorities with staff, tracks budgets and grant activity, reviews program documentation for accuracy and eligibility, supports contract administration, and helps keep projects on schedule and within scope.
The ideal candidate brings strong operational judgment, comfort working with budgets and compliance documentation, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with Tribal citizens, partners, and internal stakeholders in a fast-moving, service-focused environment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in housing management, grant administration, budgeting, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of housing program regulations and compliance requirements, including HUD and LIHTC
- Ability to calculate income/eligibility and interpret supporting documentation
- Working knowledge of government grant and contracting processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to learn housing software
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check
- Must be available for occasional travel and evening/weekend meetings as needed
