Job Description

Idaho State University Athletics is seeking an Assistant or Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations. Title will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and duties. If the successful candidate qualifies, this position may also be selected to serve as the institutions Senior Woman Administrator (SWA), in accordance with NCAA Constitution 4.02.5. Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

The Assistant/Associate AD for Internal Operations will collaborate with the Director of Athletics to support and advance the mission of the Department of Athletics and Idaho State University. While duties may vary based on qualifications, the responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate AD primarily include oversight of equipment services, collaboration on gender equity initiatives, coordination of championships and selected events, strategic planning, student-athlete and staff programming, delivery of student-athlete experience surveys and exit interviews, internal coordination of facilities improvements and projects, support for game day operations, and other projects as assigned. The Assistant/Associate AD will work to implement policies, protocols and initiatives which enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience, enhance their health and wellness, and support their educational goals. This position assists in ensuring strong collaboration with compliance and academics, delivering quality educational and auxiliary programming to student-athletes and coaches, and developing sound processes to ensure the delivery of holistic support to student-athletes according to the institutional mission and NCAA requirements. Sport administration duties for one or more mens and/or womens intercollegiate athletic teams will be assigned. The Assistant/Associate AD will participate in goal-setting, performance management, and budget planning and monitoring for assigned teams. The position requires a travel commitment of up to 50%.

Key Responsibilities

Assistant AD for Internal Operations

  • Assist in the completion of necessary institutional reports to the NCAA, Idaho State Board of Education, Big Sky Conference, and the institution. Collect and analyze data and prepare reports as needed.
  • Provide direct oversight of the athletic department equipment services operation.
  • Recruit, hire, organize, and assign Idaho State University student employees, career path interns (CPIs), volunteers, and paid/unpaid interns as needed.
  • Serve as the ISU Athletics liaison for The Jungle of ISU - the best student section in the Big Sky Conference.
  • Collaborate with coaches to coordinate and promote student-athlete volunteer activities and community engagement.
  • Oversee the maintenance and update of the student-athlete handbook, student-athlete code of conduct, drug policy, and other student-focused policies and procedures. Ensure a strong partnership with the Dean of Students in these areas.
  • Coordinate new student-athlete orientation programming.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and for assigned sports, coordinate and approve team schedules for practice and competition which support the established goals for selected women's and/or mens sports, coordinating specific game dates among the various athletics teams and with other universities and colleges, and ensuring that the schedule includes an appropriate balance of home and away games and that the required facilities (i.e., fields, courts, arenas) are available to support the schedule.
  • Serve as Athletics Department representative for all departmental capital projects. Oversee collaborations with University planning and recreation for facilities use, improvements, and partnerships.
  • Serve as the sport administrator for one mens or womens intercollegiate sports team. Report regularly to the AD regarding the health, progress and needs of these programs, and facilitate involvement of the AD at appropriate times. Cover all home competitions for appointed teams.
  • Serve as the coordinator for ISU hosted tournaments and championships hosted by Idaho State University Athletics. Coordinate participation in championships, post-season competition, foreign tours, and pre-season or special events at other sites.
  • Coordinate the annual Bennion Banquet, the all sports banquet recognizing all student-athletes.
  • Participate in campus initiatives, internal working groups/committees, and game management as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Athletics by executing initiatives and special projects. Contribute to overall success by performing other duties as assigned.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Promotions and Bengal Athletic Boosters (B.A.B.) to coordinate pre-game and tailgate events as required.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, professional contacts with colleagues, and participation in professional development opportunities.
  • Together with the Director of Athletics, reinforce and promote the department of athletics shared values, the Bengal ROAR. Develop strategies to ensure that all staff and student-athletes are striving to live the Bengal ROAR.

Associate AD for Internal Operations

  • All duties listed above for Assistant AD for Internal Operations; plus
  • Coordinate and generate robust nominations of student-athletes for leadership, service, and academic awards.
  • Develop strategies to address mental health and coordinate the utilization of campus resources to enhance the overall wellness of student-athletes.
  • Facilitate the personal development of student-athletes. Initiate education and programming to support the enhancement of student-athlete campus engagement, life skills, diversity and inclusion, financial literacy, and wellness
  • Serve as a liaison with the Office of the Dean of Students and manage, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics, student-athlete welfare and discipline issues.
  • Serve as a liaison for student-athletes. Listen to and evaluate student concerns and issues, provide guidance and facilitate problem-solving, always engaging the Director of Athletics appropriately with expressed issues and concerns.
  • Participate in developing a culture of excellence across the department, determining and guiding strategic direction, and positively engaging department staff in change and growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Athletic Administration or related field.
  • Evidence of at least 3 years experience working with collegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Strong computer and technical skills to support high utilization of various university systems, institutional and national databases, Big Sky Conference and NCAA portals and resources, and other technology based tools and subscriptions.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Integrity, dependability, and leadership qualities.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively organize execution of operations.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of diverse personalities.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of at least 6 years experience working with collegiate athletics.
  • Experience in managing, supervising, and evaluating sports programs.
  • Experience managing initiatives in Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and overall student-athlete well-being.
