Summary:
Are you passionate about facility management and looking for an opportunity to contribute to the smooth operation of a corrections institution? We have an exciting position available as an Assistant Physical Plant Manager, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of our facility.

Responsibilities:
- Supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment in a power/heating plant by formulating operating procedures, assigning subordinates to shifts and evaluating the quality of performance.
- Collaborate with the Physical Plant Manager II in overseeing all aspects of facility maintenance and operations within the corrections institution.
- Assist in the planning and execution of preventive maintenance programs for various systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, and fire safety.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and compliance issues, and take appropriate actions to resolve them.
- Coordinate and supervise maintenance staff in their daily tasks, ensuring adherence to schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Assist in managing the facility's budget, including tracking expenses, reviewing vendor contracts, and recommending cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, and work orders to facilitate efficient tracking and reporting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, ensuring readiness to handle unforeseen events or crises.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a corrections institution or a similar high-security environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire safety.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Familiarity with regulatory codes, safety standards, and compliance requirements applicable to corrections institutions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Proficiency in computer systems and maintenance management software.
Knowledge of:
- the principles and procedures used in directing, maintaining, and managing institutional physical plants according to their design, layout, and service demands;
- planning, scheduling, supervision, and program administration;
- occupational hazards and safety precautions appropriate for maintenance or repair projects;
- record keeping and report writing.
Ability to:
- assess the needs for repairs or preventive maintenance of physical plant facilities and to develop plans for these projects;
- read and interpret blueprints and construction plans;
- accurately estimate building costs and material requirements;
- operate construction equipment and power tools;
- operate computers;
- supervise;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
This position is eligible for Veterans Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
