Position Type: Administration & Coordinator/ Assistant Principal Boyne City Elementary is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and organized Assistant Principal to join our leadership team. This role is designed for a leader who excels in building relationships and thrives on creating structured, supportive environments where every student can succeed. The primary focus of this position is to serve as a bridge between the administration, staff, parents, and students, while leading the development and implementation of positive behavior systems and intervention plans. The assistant principal will be an essential resource in connecting families in Boyne City to community resources. Key Areas of Responsibility 1. Communication & Community Engagement Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, ensuring transparent, proactive communication about student progress and school initiatives. Staff Advocacy: Foster a collaborative school culture by maintaining open lines of communication with teachers and support staff; providing guidance, feedback, and support. Student Connection: Maintain a high-visibility presence in hallways, classrooms, and during lunch/recess to build rapport and trust with our young learners. 2. Behavior Systems & Student Success Behavioral Leadership: Lead the design and refinement of school-wide behavioral systems (e.g., PBIS) that promote a safe and inclusive learning environment. Individualized Support: Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and the school psychologist to create and monitor Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students needing extra support. Conflict Resolution: Facilitate restorative justice practices and productive conversations to resolve student conflicts and behavioral challenges. 3. Administrative Roles Assist the Principal with daily school operations and staff supervision. Utilize data to track behavioral trends and suggest systemic improvements. Help coordinate school events, community resources, safety drills, homeless student supports, and parent-teacher conferences. Qualifications & Preferences Certification: Michigan Administrative Certification (or eligibility to obtain it) is preferred. A successful candidate without this certification would receive district support in obtaining the certification if selected. Education: A Master's degree in Educational Leadership or a related field is preferred. Experience: Previous classroom experience is preferred, as it provides the context for supporting our instructional staff. Alternative Experience: Candidates with equivalent training or significant leadership experience in a youth-centered or educational nonprofit setting will be considered. Ideal Skills Exceptional active listening and verbal communication skills. Deep understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed practices. Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations. Situational Awareness - ability to "read" the situation and act proactively.
