Job Title: Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

Location: Mayville State University, Mayville, ND

Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000 - Dependent on experience

Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (health insurance premiums paid 100% by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, and tuition waiver. Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long- term care insurance, flexible spending account, and supplemental retirement plans.

Who can apply: Internal/external candidates eligible to work in the United States. Mayville State University does not offer visa sponsorship currently.

Position Information: Mayville State University welcomes applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to launch the recently approved Criminal Justice program at Mayville State with support to begin ongoing program development work as early as March 15. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in criminal court administration, relations with policing, criminal justice systems and the community, and policing. The successful candidate will teach at least 12 credit hours per semester which will include face-to-face and online instruction. Summer instruction may be possible. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice. The minimum qualification for the position is a Masters degree, but candidates with significant progress toward a Ph.D. are preferred.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in criminal justice or Masters degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in criminal justice
  • Demonstration of clear, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstration of organizational skills
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to academic advisement of students
  • Commitment to student recruitment and retention for the Criminal Justice program.
  • Proficient use of instructional technology
  • Proven ability to work in a self-directed environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice
  • Instructional experience within a higher education setting
