Assistant Professor of Horn
The Louisiana State University School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position, Assistant Professor of French Horn, with appointment to begin in fall 2024. We seek artist-performers and teachers with demonstrated ability to attract a vibrant studio of students who value learning in an engaged, collaborative, and inspiring school culture.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Teach applied horn, teach courses in brass literature, pedagogy, or other area of expertise, coach chamber music, advise graduate students; recruit promising student musicians
  • Build and maintain a national and international profile as performer and teacher; participate with faculty in chamber music, and contribute broadly to the artistic and educational milieu of a major School of Music at a Research I, flagship university.
  • Provide service and participate in faculty governance
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Doctorate in horn performance or equivalent professional experience
  • Distinguished record as an active performer; demonstrated excellence in teaching a broad range of students with diverse skill sets
  • Commitment to contributing broadly to the culture of a major School of Music.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • An additional area of expertise that extends ones influence; evidence of dispositions that serve relationship-building, problem-solving, and opportunity-generating capacities.

LSU also has an innovative and collaborative media arts community; The Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) includes Experimental Music & Digital Media, Digital Media Arts & Engineering, and Digital Arts, offering opportunities to compose for video games, digital animations, and film.

LSU has an enrollment of over 33,000 students. Baton Rouge supports a thriving performing arts scene, including the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, several dance companies, various eclectic concert series, and a professional theatre company.
