Rise Up Early Childhood is an intimate and innovative, Waldorf-inspired childcare center in Rogers Park serving children 2-5 years old. We are looking for an Assistant Teacher to join our team and work in the two and 3-5 year old classrooms. The ideal candidate:

  • is familiar with, excited by, or has experience working from this play-based, nature-infused, arts-forward philosophy.
  • is energetic, loves the outdoors and nature (we go outside in all types of weather!), and enjoys working with very young children.
  • has a passion for and experience with working with very young children
  • is able to co-facilitate a positive, gentle, and enriching learning experience for our attending children.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Rise Up teaching staff, and/or work independently to plan weekly curriculum with storytime, seasonal circle activities, and songs.
  • Work collaboratively with lead teachers, assistant teachers, director, and other support staff to communicate about plans and activities, establish routines, and designate responsibilities.
  • Practice regular observation and evaluation/assessment of children’s development and progress, and maintain records of children's activities, progress, and behavior. This will be in collaboration with lead teachers and program directors.
  • Nurture positive relationships with parents, establishing and maintaining strong communication with them about their child's experiences and development over time.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the children and families in our program.
  • Model appropriate behavior (kindness, gentleness, respect) for children. Provide guidance to children in social interactions and problem solving as needed.
  • Care for and upkeep the appearance, decor, and cleanliness of the classroom. Ensure the safety of each child whether in the center, on the playground, or in common areas. Create safe and appropriate diapering, toileting, and handwashing practices.
  • Attend a monthly evening teachers' meeting as well as occasional weekend or evening festivals.

Hours: 8am - 3.30pm (with lunch break), plus a monthly evening teacher meeting, occasional weekend or evening festivals, and annual parent-teacher conferences.

Compensation range: $17.50 - $20 per hour
