Working with the support of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in developing all players in the program on and off the ice through a championship caliber environment, an open door for competition and development of skills, character, and leadership at all levels.

The winter season starts on November 1 and runs through February 23. Practices are scheduled Mondays from 3:45-5:15 pm and Wednesdays from 8:00-9:15 pm. There may be an occasional third practice during the week. Games are played M-F at various locations and time. This is a stipend paid position that reports to the Director of Athletics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other duties may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

  • Coaches’ individual participants in mechanics, film study and skills necessary to compete at the highest level possible.
  • Coordinate and supervise a regular schedule of practice.
  • Encourage sportsmanship, team unity, and enforce all sportsmanship guidelines.
  • Enforce discipline of contest, school, league and state rules and regulations.
  • Support school organized efforts for a sustainable fundraising plan and communicate with players, coaches, and community.
  • Provide and display a willingness to work with the Athletics Department, administration, staff, student- athletes, and parents.
  • Support players in the college selection and recruiting process.
  • Develop and organize out of season training, tournaments, and player development.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches, and community. Experience coaching/participating in ice hockey at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of applicable league rules.
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
