Job Summary: SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for an \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Assistive Technology Specialist\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" (ATS) for Student Accessibility Services (SAS). The main purpose of the ATS is to facilitate a culture of student success through engagement, support, and accessibility and to foster equal access to college programs and services. A successful candidate must be aware of federal, state, and local guidelines as they pertain to assistive technology compliance, legal framework, and best practices in order to help make recommendations and provide direction in the procurement of accessible tools and accessible design of digital space. This person will train and support students in the use of assistive technology by developing training materials and meeting 1 on 1 with students to assess, determine, facilitate, and coordinate services. The ATS will serve as the Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) coordinator and will need to stay current with trends and recommend best practices for electronic information technology and accessibility for new and existing technologies, including software, hardware, web-based applications, and documentations. This will also include reviewing WCAG compliance and VPATs for new college technological purchases and make appropriate recommendations. Other job functions include researching new technologies, providing assistive technology workshops for community and campus-wide stakeholders, attending community and campus tabling/recruitment events, partnering with other campus offices, supporting the Assistant Director to assist the University's strategic goals related to accessibility, and assisting SAS team with other departmental functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field by time of appointment, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in determining and training appropriate assistive technology support for people with disabilities.
  • Excellent written ,interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to learn new technology, software, programs quickly.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred experience in a field with services for students with disabilities in a college or university setting
  • Master's degree in education, technology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with Banner, Accommodate, Brightspace, assistive technology, or related systems.
  • Familiarity with instructional practices and the accessibility of instructional materials as it pertains to individuals with disabilities, along with a broad understanding of existing accessibility standards, such as Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 - 4
    Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $56,000.
