The Opportunity This position works out of our Tipp City, OH location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You’ll Work On The Associate Packaging Automation Engineer improves and maintains plant equipment, systems and other fixed assets to a high standard of safety, quality and productivity while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. This role provides automation engineering support to all aspects of the operation to a 24-hour production facility. Works with a cross-functional team of mechanical, chemical, process and other engineering disciplines. Solves problems that have a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Plans schedules, conducts or coordinates engineering work for project tasks and deadlines. Uses knowledge to advise on the definition of a project scope with internal customers. Applies new technology and control updates where feasible. Interfaces with project team members, department managers, designers, R&D, Corporate and Division Engineering. Provides technical support to the Tipp City plant, division engineering, and the Quality Assurance to support new product introductions, new process/equipment start-up, process optimizations, vendor qualifications, and process alternative evaluations. Implements new and/or current manufacturing methods into manufacturing. Monitors production to determine areas of improvement and reacts to unforeseen production/manufacturing issues. Creates and executes validation activities according to plant/division policy. Plans and conducts small to medium-size projects. Responsibilities include detailed project planning/monitoring, project reviews, implementation, validation, and release to production. Creates equipment/process specifications, drawings, and software as required and ensures that existing documentation is accurate and appropriate. Researches, recommends, implements, and qualifies replacement parts for discontinued/obsolete components, equipment, and software. Communicates and reviews software changes and updates before execution with other engineers. Detail-oriented with desire to complete work at a high level. Provides excellent customer service to the production teams and meets Abbott compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Associate or bachelor’s degree in industrial automation, electrical, systems, or equivalent degree. 2–5 years’ experience in flexible packaging automation engineering, new machine programming, and/or line integration execution. Demonstrated project management skills. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, required. Possesses a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures of flexible packaging systems. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Interacts well with diverse groups within the operation and maintains strong working relationships in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven environment. Work experience in the food/medical industry under SQF, ODA, FDA, and/or other regulatory bodies. Required working knowledge of the following: Integrated control systems AC and DC power distribution systems at a machine level. Control system wiring Powerflex 500 and 700 series Rockwell Studio 5000 Rockwell FTView (SE/ME/Viewpoint) Rockwell Kinetix system troubleshooting IOLink, EtherNet, and other fieldbus technologies AutoCAD Electrical Preferred Qualifications OSI/PI or ZPI historian Ignition software (support or development) Cognex Vision Systems Videojet print systems Markem-Imaje print systems GMP understanding 21 CFR Part 11 understanding.
