Alumni & Stakeholder Engagement has an exciting opening for an Associate Director for Web Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Director for Web Development is responsible managing the digital marketing assets that support the University of Washington Alumni Associations (UWAA) comprehensive marketing programs. This role serves as the technical project manager for all digital asset work, including strategy and planning. They focus on the development and maintenance of the website, mobile applications and digital engagement platforms, all of which are vital outreach vehicles to UWAA and UW stakeholders. They build web applications to support ASE marketing initiatives and are at the forefront of web development, utilizing innovative methodologies and approaches for development, maintenance, user interface design and content strategy.

The Associate Director reports to the Director of ASE Marketing and Communications and supervises two employees.

What You Will Do:

Web/App/Software Development (70%)

  • Design, develop and maintain themes, templates, websites and applications for websites, mobile applications and marketing service platforms.

  • Procure and manage technical contractors and software/platform vendors.

  • Work as an independent practitioner and in collaboration with contractors/vendors, other University Advancement designers, UX practitioners, content authors and key stakeholders to produce and maintain engaging digital experiences in support of ASEs outreach efforts.

  • Collaborate with partners in Accessible Technology Services to ensure accessibility and compatibility with central University Advancement systems and platforms.


  • Administration (20%)

  • Monitor compliance with production schedules and the proofing process to streamline and achieve process clarity.

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team members to produce reports, including gathering data and data analysis.


  • Other duties as assigned, including event staffing (10%)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience in engineering, computer science, programming, development, graphic design, human-computer interaction or related field.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    What You Bring:

  • Experience managing a team of volunteers, students or direct reports.

  • Robust web and application development experience, including a strong portfolio of personally developed websites.

  • Expert knowledge of WordPress, including theming and extensions/plugins.

  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

  • Strong working knowledge of responsive web design and cross-platform compatible coding techniques and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to create, edit and document reusable, semantic, accessible code that can be used by a variety of assistive technologies.

  • Ability to explain technical details to various audiences using language and techniques appropriate for the situation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate objectives, energize and inspire staff to achieve results and meet goals while creating a culture of trust and collaboration across units.

  • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations and exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidence and protect confidential information.

  • Willing to travel out-of-state up to three times per year for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down.
