About Varaha

Varaha is a climate-first company that develops and scales high-quality, verifiable carbon projects across India and other smallholder farming economies. To date, Varaha has reached over 100,000 smallholders across more than 1.1 million acres, improving livelihoods while advancing nature-based climate solutions.

Our work spans regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, biochar, and enhanced rock weathering, supported by in-house MRV systems that combine digital field data, geospatial analytics, remote sensing validation, and calibrated scientific models to quantify carbon removal. Founded in 2022, the company is on track to deliver over one million high-quality carbon credits in 2026.

Varaha’s projects have secured offtake agreements with global buyers including Microsoft, Google, Kellanova, Louis Dreyfus Company, Mirova, Lufthansa, and Swiss Re. Varaha was named to the 2024 TIME100 Climate List and the 2024 Forbes Asia 100 to Watch.

About the Role

The Associate Manager, Carbon Projects will lead the technical development of AFOLU-based ARR carbon projects from feasibility through registration and credit issuance. The Associate Manager will be responsible for the successful document design and delivery of projects and will lead a cross-functional team to take projects to issuance.

This is an execution-heavy role with some managerial requirements. You will own project timelines, coordinate cross-functional inputs, and ensure that project documentation and calculations meet registry standards. The role requires strong methodological understanding, analytical rigor, and high-quality technical writing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end development of ARR carbon projects under VM0047 and similar methodologies

  • Prepare, review, and refine Project Design Documents

  • Develop ERR calculations, including ARR carbon stock modelling, leakage assessment, and perform uncertainty calculations

  • Design baseline scenarios and strong additionality thesis for each project

  • Coordinate with GIS, MRV, field, and data teams to ensure accuracy and methodological consistency

  • Manage documentation for validation and respond to auditor and client queries

  • Maintain structured, audit-ready technical documentation

Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on carbon project development experience

  • Experience in AFOLU projects, specifically ARR

  • Strong understanding of VCS Standard, VM0047 and AR-ACM0003 methodologies

  • Demonstrated experience writing PDDs

  • Experience in ARR modelling and uncertainty calculations

  • Strong research and technical writing skills

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Verra validation and verification processes

  • Experience working with geospatial datasets

  • Experience working with carbon registries other than Verra (Gold Standard, Isometric, etc.)

What We Offer

Join a growing, ambitious, international team and enjoy:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package (including ESOPs)

  • A key role in shaping a fast-growing climate-tech startup

  • Support for learning and professional development

  • A culture of undogmatic, unbureaucratic creativity and collaboration
