Responsibilities Travel to customer sites approximately 50% of the time, at times with less than 24 hours notice. Inspect pumps and parts for deficiencies in size, fit, clearance, damage and adherence to specifications/dimensions. Determine if parts can be re-used based upon inspection. Reverse engineer used or damaged components. Determine proper clearances and fits for parts. Visually investigate causes for excessive wear and/or failure. Recommend the most cost effective and efficient methods and options for repairs. Prepare drawings and written specifications for machining department and outside vendors for making or repairing parts. Contact outside vendors and coordinate the making or repair of parts, ensuring the most cost effective pricing while meeting specifications. Act as a technical resource to field service personnel, shop personnel, customers, vendor and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems, and/or special conditions. Prepare accurate and timely specifications for repair of used parts. Prepare and supply accurate notes on re-assembly to the assembly department. Determine parts to order so that pumps can be re-assembled correctly. Disassemble pumps when needed. Reassemble pumps when needed. Develop into a technical resource for customers and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems. Learn how to provide a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer. Train to become a Field Service team leader and function as a self-sufficient Field Service Project Engineer. Operate lift equipment and cranes to safely move parts and pumps. Complete special projects as assigned. Complete and maintain all required paperwork, final reports, records, documents, etc. Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Be respectful to co-workers and be part of an environment that fosters teamwork. May be asked to work overtime at short notice. Qualifications / Education and Skills Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor\'s of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution with zero to two years of related experience. Education requirements may vary based on experience. Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare reports, specifications, blueprints and drawings, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization. Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Understanding of advanced mathematical techniques such as calculus, differential equations and statistics. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Knowledge of office products such as Word and Excel and proficiency with AutoCAD LT and SolidWorks. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate a wide variety of standard business machines, to include a computer and keyboard, job related software, telephone, calculator, fax machine, and photocopier. Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, lift equipment and cranes. Physical requirements include frequent use of hands, standing, walking, and variable positions; lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally; close vision and ability to adjust focus.
