At Avidicure, located in the Leiden Bio Science Park, we discover and develop entirely new antibody therapies, called “Actibodies”. Our first-in-class product platform is designed to deliver targeted and potent immune-modulating treatments for patients with cancer or auto-immune diseases. Our team combines strong drug development experience, clear strategy, and scientific expertise. We work in a collaborative environment where ideas grow, and people can develop their talents. If you share our passion for developing next-generation antibody therapies, we invite you to consider joining our team as an Associate Scientist Antibody Technology. What we are looking forWe are seeking an Associate Scientist with expertise in antibody production, characterization, and screening. In this role, you will contribute to establishing a high-throughput mammalian expression system and conducting initial screening to identify promising candidates. Protein characterization will be critical in supporting final candidate selection. You will contribute across the end-to-end process, from initial design and production to early functional validation. This position is primarily based in the laboratory, requiring a consistent on-site presence. The Associate Scientist will be working closely with a Scientist and reports to the Associate Director of the Antibody Technology team. Why join us?Joining Avidicure means helping bring a new kind of immunotherapy to life at the forefront of scientific progress. Our triple agonism approach gives the immune system the full set of signals it needs to fight cancer more effectively, solving problems that have held the field back for years. You will be part of a team that blends deep immunology expertise with modern design tools. Over the next decade, our aim is to make Actibodies a new standard of care for patients. If you want your work to genuinely change what’s possible in cancer treatment, this is the place to do it.ResponsibilitiesSupport the design and implementation of a mammalian expression system for Actibody productions, as well as the design and optimization of characterization assays and functional assays.Perform screening experiments to evaluate protein characteristics, such as expression level, folding, and binding affinity.Conduct protein characterization assays and functional assays (e.g., melting point determination, aggregation assays, reporter assays) to support candidate selection.Analyze and document experimental data, maintaining accurate electronic lab notebooks and contributing to reports and presentations for team and project meetings.Communicate progress and results effectively with your manager and project team to ensure alignment on goals and timelines. Contribute to laboratory organization by supporting protocol drafting, SOPs, and maintaining a compliant and efficient lab environment.Education/Experience:Educated to at least BSc level in a relevant scientific area with at least 1 year of laboratory experience, preferably in industry.Practical experience in cell culture (preferably with mammalian cells to produce antibody like structures) and protein characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, ELISA.Experience in protein purification and advanced characterization methods (e.g., Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), or Biolayer Interferometry (BLI) techniques is desirable.Experience in setting up cell-based functional assays is a plus.Personal Attributes and Key skills:Positive, proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, take on challenges, and contribute to solutions.Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret experimental data and draw sound conclusions. Collaborative team player who contributes to a supportive working environment.Ability to work independently and under supervision, take the initiative when necessary, planning and managing multiple and varied tasks.Commitment to high-quality research, with attention to detail and accurate record keeping.Familiarity with data analysis software for protein characterization and screening data (e.g., GraphPad, Excel, Prism, or similar). Fluent in English. We kindly ask agencies not to contact us for this vacancy. Please note, relocation support cannot be offered for this role.
