Job Overview

The Assistant Director Counseling Center manages the daily administration of the Counseling Center whose primary function is two-fold: training in professional psychology and providing psychological services to students at the University of Cincinnati.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the overall direction of the Training Program of the Counseling Center
  • Prepare, submit, and administer the program annual budget, as well as authorize and approve expenditures, allocation of funds, and hiring process.
  • Provide support of the American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Internship Training Program, including Self-study documentation.
  • Develop and support effective communication with coordinators of the CAPS Associate Directors, Testing, Outreach, Directors of Student Life, and the Assistant Vice President.
  • Provide clinical supervision for graduate trainees.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Provides direct clinical and outreach services to students, individual and group counseling, and urgent intervention when necessary.
  • Provide leadership in the organization and operation of the training program to include creating supervision plans and training of trainees. Managing all documentation to academic versity policies and procedures to make critical decisions.
  • Create and organize all levels of operation (e.g., selection of trainees, presentations and seminars, clinical supervision, and evaluation).
  • Active in Association of Counseling Training Directors and build relationships with Training Directors at other universities, as a representative of CAPS - UC.
  • Confer and consult with the Director to ensure compliance with departmental and university policies and procedures to make critical decisions.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) or Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.).

Required Trainings/Certifications

Current licensure or licensure eligible as a psychologist, social worker or clinical counselor in the State of Ohio (achieve licensure within six (6) months of hire).

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience in an administrative capacity in student personnel or counseling.
  • Ability to supervise in their discipline.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Completion of an APA Doctoral Program in Psychology
  • Completion of an APA Internship in Psychology

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
