The New York State Unified Court System, Appellate Division 4th Department Mental Hygiene Legal Service is recruiting for three (3) positions in the Attorney Series. These positions will be filled in one of the following titles and will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the applicant selected: Associate Attorney, Senior Attorney, or Attorney. This position will provide representation of the mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and incarcerated individuals who are facing civil commitment Key Responsibilities: Presenting cases before administrative tribunals and courts.Researching and analyzing legal questions and issues.Preparing confidential reports, memoranda, legal papers and briefs.Interviewing litigants, witnesses, and other parties to administrative and judicial proceedings, all dealing with mentally disabled clients.Drafting correspondence related to case inquiries.Extensive travel without reliance on public carriers is necessary for this position.Qualifications: Associate Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Senior Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $110,853Senior Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $99,490Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; or Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment.
