The Automation Control Engineer will play a pivotal role in the production process of our solar panels. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, their primary responsibility is to design, implement, and maintain Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) solutions as well as develop and optimize process automation solutions. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, configuring MES software, integrating MES with other systems, designing, and implementing process automation solutions, and providing ongoing support to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop MES solutions tailored to the organization’s manufacturing processes.
- Customize and configure MES software to meet specific production requirements.
- Integrate MES systems with other enterprise systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Develop and optimize process automation solutions using technologies such as PLCs, SCADA systems, and robotics.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for MES and process automation projects.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements through automation.
- Provide training to end-users and production staff on MES system functionalities and process automation systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for the procurement and implementation of hardware and software solutions.
- Offer ongoing support and troubleshooting for MES related issues and process automation systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Engineering Manager or delegate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related field with 2-5 years of automation experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MS in Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering considered an asset
- Computer Engineering considered an asset
- IT experience considered an asset
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and supporting MES solutions
- Proficiency in MES software platforms
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations
- Experience with process automation technologies, including PLCs, SCADA systems, ERP systems, and robotics.
- Familiarity with integration protocols and standards (e.g. OPC, SQL, XML)
- Project management skills, including the ability to develop and lead project plans, and manage timelines
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to travel within Canada and the United States
Salary Range: $65,000 to $90,000 Annually
