Automation Engineer - Manufacturing Automation, Robotics, Complex Motion Control United Abrasives seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Automation Solutions Engineer (Manufacturing) position with strong experience in hydraulic and Pneumatic Motion Control for Industrial Automation. If you are looking for an opportunity to support a growing, world‑class manufacturing company with multiple manufacturing operations then this may be the position for you! Responsibilities: Maintain and support automation systems for the custom manufacturing of products. Support software programs for controls, vision systems, and human machine interfaces. Lead in the planning and startup of complex control, information, and automation systems. Write and/or conduct experiments for proof of concept testing and design validation testing. Provide support to operations and maintenance groups as needed. Investigate and resolve issues associated with machining and facilities equipment, assembly automation, work stations, robotics and automated equipment. Maintain and update controls documentation, including schematics and or documents for machining/assembly, maintenance PM's. Troubleshoot PLC controls, electrical components, servo‑drives, motors, wiring‑cables in cable trays and panels. Lead, coordinate and facilitate trouble shooting electrical issues, problem issues as they relate to equipment downtime, throughput improvement, or any safety concern - interlocks, switches. Provide assistance to troubleshoot and make improvements on all electrical facilities and equipment using input from production, maintenance supervisors, business unit leaders, engineering group leaders, tradesmen, operators, vendors/service provides. Monitor and improve performance of production processes with respect to cycle time, uptime, etc. Work with and support all plant operations in world class manufacturing initiatives utilizing WCM tools for continuous improvement efforts, including kaizens and other quality improvements aids. Qualifications: B.S. in Automation Engineering Technology. Minimum 3 years combined experience in industrial automation (especially Pneumatic Servo / Motion control), robotics, vision systems, PLC controllers and micro controller engineering as well as standards‑based serial communication (RS-232, RS-485, Profinet, ProfiBus, I2C, SPI). Siemens Tia Portal, Step7, WinCC programming experience. Proven programming experience with Siemens PLC and Assembler based languages. Strong computer skills, must be proficient in MS‑Office. Possess strong problem solving skills (Root Cause Analysis). Knowledge and experience with automated production equipment. Experience with robotics programming and hardware. Ability to design and troubleshoot AC/DC control circuits. Knowledgeable in areas of mistake proofing and problem solving techniques. Knowledge of panel building and electrical enclosure layouts. English language competency required with good written and verbal communication skills. Must have ability to read, understand and troubleshoot electric‑hydraulic/pneumatic controls. Must be self‑directed and have an ability to learn new skills and responsibilities.
