What You Will Do:

The Automation Engineer will work to plan, install, qualify, and start up our automation systems at Ambient Photonics’ first manufacturing facility.
Working with our outside automation integration partners, the Automation Engineer will be closely involved in qualifying first-article production equipment and processes, as well as establishing documented methodologies for operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
The incumbent will demonstrate leadership during the acceptance testing both at the supplier’s facility, and then at Ambient’s first factory in the Bay Area.
The Automation Engineer will lead the equipment side start-up phase, working closely with and helping to manage the third-party integration team.
Ongoing duties will include improving the efficiency and reliability of the automation, reduced process variation, and constantly improving OEE.


Responsibilities:
  • Design qualification procedures for new equipment installation and start-up.
  • Represent Ambient Photonics while working with the third-party integration partner.
  • Key role in equipment documentation and Engineering Change Control.
  • Assist with integrating MES layer to machine controls layer.
  • Principal role for troubleshooting and analyzing performance for robotic and automation equipment.
  • Acts as primary interface with equipment suppliers and ensures timely resolution of operational problems and needs.
    Follows solutions through to implementation.
  • Manage projects and be accountable for successful project delivery.
  • Work with Quality, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering to solve problems using root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in highly automated manufacturing environments
  • Previous experience in Facility Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing
  • Programming skills for industrial controllers (PLC)
  • Must be able to diagnose typical HMI-PLC communication issues
  • Must understand operation principles of robotic systems and basic principles of programming robots
  • Project management skills
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing) Experience in FANUC, Siemens, Rockwell, Keyence, SolidWorks and/or SCADA
  • 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Industrial experience in similar position in IC, Photovoltaics, or PCBA industry (Preferred)
  • Organizational, planning and documentation skills
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.
