The plans, organizes, and presents Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical instruction in accordance with established OEM curricula, methodologies, technologies, tools, and techniques to achieve desired outcomes. The Automotive Senior Technical Trainer is responsible for teaching, coaching, and assessing mid-career to master-level automotive service technicians in brand-specific diagnostics, testing, troubleshooting, service, and repair and procedures as prescribed by the OEM parent corporation’s learner journey. The Automotive Senior Technical Trainer must be capable of delivering the full catalog of OEM technical course material in accordance with the industry’s traditional approach of initial subject mastery, followed by co-teaching, auditing, and ultimately the independent full delivery of each course as prescribed within the curricula. Responsibilities include: maintaining current technical proficiency in all of the OEM’s brand specific products, diagnostic strategies, tools, and techniques; coordinating with the Project Manager to ensure all course documentation is current and relevant; developing the master training schedule; maintaining accurate training records; setup of classrooms, workshops, training vehicles, equipment, tools, and study guides prior to each block of instruction; resetting of classrooms, workshops, vehicles, and related tools and equipment at the conclusion of training; routine validation of course material content and procedures through the testing of workshop activities to ensure new product specific tasks and procedures are integrated into the training process; alerting the Project Manager and the curriculum developer of any technical deficiencies in the course content and to assist with developing appropriate course content refinements; updating of any software associated with diagnostic equipment to ensure compatibility with new vehicle models prior to conducting training on that vehicle; maintaining accurate and timely product knowledge on the full complement of training fleet vehicles, to include awareness of any service bulletins, and how to address known, or unresolved technical product issues that may require resolution; provide developmental support of junior to mid-level automotive technical trainers through co-teaching, individual skill and performance-based assessments, and on-on-one coaching; and, assist the Project Manager with providing oversight of the training team staff, training vehicle fleet, essential equipment, tools, parts, and the facilities condition, capacity, and capabilities.

Skill Requirements:

  • Automotive Technical Competency: Application of professionally acquired skills, knowledge, experience, processes, methodologies, tools, techniques, and analytics to ensure all training activities meet OEM brand specific requirements;
  • Automotive Technical Knowledge: Delivery of master level automotive OEM technical training knowledge and experience gained through dealership work experience, professional education through accredited automotive technical schooling, and on the job learning;
  • Adult Learning: Encouragement and motivation of people with varying levels of existing skills, knowledge, and experience to leverage self-direction and build self-confidence while absorbing, mastering, and applying new information, techniques, and procedures that enable them to achieve higher levels of technical competency;
  • Human Resource Management: Coaching, assessment, and skill / professional development of subordinates and student delegates attending training;
  • Training Development: Development and publishing of master training schedules, curricula development, and technical procedure development and assessment;
  • Office and Administrative Management: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Fundamental knowledge and the ability to enter data and produce reports within a Learning Management System (LMS); and
  • Communications: Ensure all stakeholders have timely, complete, and accurate information available to them to take action when needed to ensure the delivery of efficient and high quality training on behalf of the OEM client; Maintain a cooperative and trust based relationship with the training staff and student delegates to ensure they have a high degree of confidence and the ability to achieve and maintain global training certification requirements; and, ensure all trainers and students emulate the image, values, and culture of the OEM brand(s) while attending training.


Experience Requirements:

  • 10 or more years of technical training experience at the automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical training institution level – required
  • 10 or more years of delivering OEM technician and / or body shop technical training – required
  • 5 or more years leading an OEM technical training team or supervising a retailer / dealership service technician team as a shop foreman. – required
  • 1 or more years of delivering an OEM technical training in accordance with federal, state, local and major OEM COVID health safety laws, policies, rules, regulations and procedures - required
  • Past or present OEM service technician and / or instructor certification - required
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – required
  • Automotive Vocational Technical School Degree - required
  • Bachelor’s Degree – desired
