DESCRIPTION:

Halcyon Days Consulting, LLC (HDC) is a veteran owned small business that specializes in the design and engineering of Tactical Mission Networks (TMN). This is a unique opportunity to join a small and high-performing team committed to delivering cloud platforms for exciting missions. 

HDC is seeking an experienced Backend Software Developer who is passionate about building systems that matter. In this role, you’ll architect and own the services that form the backbone of our mission platforms- from secure APIs to resilient data pipelines. You’ll apply modern software engineering practices while ensuring performance, scalability, and security at mission scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

• Design, build, and own backend microservices using Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3

• Develop secure and resilient REST and WebSocket APIs, incorporating CORS, rate limiting, and async/offload strategies

• Implement fine-grained access controls (RBAC/ABAC) to safeguard mission data

• Model and optimize data in Postgres (JPA/Hibernate) and Redis for high-performance applications

• Strengthen system reliability through observability, logging, and monitoring practices

• Contribute to mission agility by maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines with Docker and GitHub Actions

• Apply event-driven architecture to build scalable, responsive platforms

• Collaborate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation, mentoring peers where possible

• Proficiency with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3

• Experience designing and securing APIs (REST, WebSockets)

• Strong understanding of Postgres and Redis data modeling

• Knowledge of RBAC/ABAC authorization frameworks

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerization

• Familiarity with event-driven architecture concepts

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, common network protocols, OSI model, and defense-in-depth principles.

• Strong understanding of Clean Architecture principles and ability to apply them to design maintainable, scalable, and testable backend systems.

• Familiarity with TAK/CoT and GeoJSON

• Background in geospatial or tactical systems
