Full job description

Culinary Services Division (CSD), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals and specialty beverages for over 18,000 customers daily and is an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CSD proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, a commissary kitchen, 4 coffee shops and the Strand Union retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the management staff, Baker Is actively produce baked goods with duties including:
  • Production of cakes and cookies and other desserts, scaling, mixing, and handling.
  • Proofing, and baking of all cake and raised donut products, sweet dough, and danish.
  • Making of muffins, turnovers, and pastries.
  • Production of scratch bagels.
  • Operating large-scale and specialty bakery equipment.
  • General cleaning of bakery equipment.
  • Instruction and oversight of student employees.
  • Interacting with the Health Inspector to ensure all sanitation guidelines are being followed.
  • And contributing to the success of the department as an active member of the team while performing other duties as needed in support of the departments mission.

Required Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Progressively responsible food service or bakery experience or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience operating commercial bakery equipment and/or other food service equipment.

Preferred Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Large volume bakery or food service experience.

The Successful Candidate Will
  • Positively and professionally perform all the functions of the position while providing excellent customer service.
  • Prepare a wide variety of recipes in mass quantity.
  • Exhibit interest in the culinary and baking arts and exercise critically good judgment. concerning taste, palatability, and aesthetics of food quality.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills.
  • Work well individually or with a team.
  • Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment.
  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Prioritize and organize workload in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Follow health and sanitation guidelines for food preparation and handling.
  • Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment.

  • Possess a 4 hour sanitation certification or have the ability to become certified.

  • Stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Ascend/descend stairs while carrying product.
  • Moving containers weighing up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100lbs.
  • Move while stocking product.
  • Gripping handles on small kitchen utensils.
  • Performing repetitive motions such as, but not limited to, chopping, stirring, and serving.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
