The role will primarily be at our Gastro Park location in West Hartford, but occasional shifts at our main café in New Britain may be required. A love for early mornings and weekend availability is essential. We offer competitive hourly pay between $16 and $17, depending on experience, plus tips. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Barista at Alvarium you will prepare and serve specialty coffees and related products to our guests and will be expected to:
- be highly knowledgeable about our products, as well as allergy concerns, in order to educate guests and make recommendations
- have a friendly and engaging personality
- be committed to consistently providing an exceptional guest experience
- be comfortable working efficiently in a fast paced environment
- be able to operate coffee and tea brewing equipment safely and accurately
- pay close attention to details and maintain a clean, safe and organized environment
- monitor stock levels, potential equipment maintenance needs, staffing needs and guest feedback and communicate needs and issues appropriately with management
Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a specialty (third wave) coffee shop strongly preferred. Service industry experience is a must!
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Exceptional interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to cover some weekday shifts is helpful, but not required. A strong attendance track record is essential.
- Knowledge of coffee and tea brewing equipment operation preferred.
- Excellent active listening skills and good memorization and recall skills.
- Experience working with a point of sale systems.
- Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. unassisted.
- Weekend availability required.
