Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the assistant teacher observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Assistant teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

Duties

  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement


Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 1+ years experience in a group childcare setting
  • High energy.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (willingness to obtain one prior to hire)
  • Pass a TB test (negative result) prior to hire
  • Must clear full background check through DCYF.
  • Must pass health screening.
  • Willingness to obtain a Food Handler's card prior to hire
  • Must be able to work 7 am to 930 am Monday through Friday; preferably able to work until at least 12 noon some if not all days M-F
  • Afternoon shift option must be able to work 2:15 pm-6 pm, preferably Monday through Friday


Nice To Haves

30 hours Child Care Basics class, or willingness to take the course
Food handlers card

Benefits

Paid major holidays after 6 months employment, additional Holidays after 12 months of continuous employment
