The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Benefits Analyst within our Human Resources Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield. The work is challenging and rewarding in counseling and administering employee benefits to law enforcement personnel and civilian employees. The Benefits Analyst (BA) performs employee benefits analysis and administration for sworn and civilian employees. The BA Analysts core areas of responsibility include but may not be limited to counseling employees and administering and processing Short-and Long-Term Disability, Virginia Workers Compensation, Light-Duty and/or Return to Work, Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Accommodations, Family and Medical Leave, Parental Leave, Health Benefits, Leave Sharing, Flexible Spending, Employee Rewards, Retirement Plans, and Life Insurance.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of State and federal employee benefit regulations which include, but may not be limited to, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Virginia Workers Compensation Act, COBRA Health Coverage, and administration of health insurance.
  • Skill in operating computers, standard office equipment and using Microsoft Office applications to include Word and Excel.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently investigate and resolve problems; review and analyze data; make decisions to ensure work related claims are filed according to State and agency policies; to work independently and as a member of a team; and to communicate professionally and effectively orally and in writing in English.
  • Experience in administering human resources benefits programs and services is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP) and Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is preferred.
  • Experience administering State employee benefits programs is preferred.
  • Experience in performing data analysis is preferred.
  • Experience in using Access is preferred.
  • Experience reconciling financial data is highly preferred.

Special Instructions

Elements of the selection process include the screening of application(s); the interviewing of qualified candidate(s), to include pre-employment testing, a presentation and/or a work sample, if applicable; salary negotiation(s) if applicable; a background investigation; and a medical evaluation if applicable.
