1 week ago Be among the first 25 applicants General Summary / Overview Statement The Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of patient billing and insurance claims for Urology Associates of Cape Cod. Reporting directly to the Revenue Cycle Billing Manager, this role manages the full billing cycle from charge entry to payment posting, denial follow-up, and patient account resolution. The position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced medical office environment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Audit daily receipts from all locations and process patient payments. Post patient payments received via mail and online. Post all insurance payments, including electronic payments and paper checks, ensuring they are attached to the correct claims in the EMR system. Assist in daily electronic and paper claim submissions, as needed. Accurately review charges for patients on an ongoing basis. Process patient refunds and answer patient inquiries regarding statements and statement balances. Insurance & Eligibility Management: Perform daily insurance eligibility checks for MassHealth, Medicare, and commercial insurance carriers, as needed. Follow up on denials and submit appeals as needed. Submit and follow up on claims and appeals to ensure timely resolution. Reconcile patient accounts for accuracy and completeness. Contact patients to collect outstanding balances. Create, communicate, and explain payment plans to patients in a professional and clear manner. Updates or scrubs new patient insurance, referrals, and demographics prior to office visit, as needed. Administrative Support Distribute office mail to appropriate departments/mailboxes. Perform general office duties including answering telephones, updating patient charts, assisting with other clerical tasks as needed. Qualifications Proficiency in medical billing processes and understanding of ICD-10 coding. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial transactions. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Customer service skills with the ability to handle patient inquiries professionally. Proficiency in EMR systems; eClinicalWorks experience strongly preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient and financial information. Other Considerations EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional coursework or certification in medical billing preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience required. Familiarity with ICD-10 coding required. Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for accurate billing, payment posting, and reconciliation of patient accounts.
