Symmetrio is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our client's neurology practice. The Billing Specialist will handle all aspects of medical billing and coding, ensuring accurate and timely processing of claims, patient billing, and collections. This role is critical in maintaining the financial health of the practice and delivering exceptional service to patients by addressing billing inquiries and resolving discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Billing and Coding:
    • Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies, government payers, and patients.
    • Use ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes specific to neurology to ensure compliance and maximize reimbursement.
    • Verify accuracy of diagnosis and procedure codes, and address coding discrepancies.
  • Claims Management:
    • Monitor, track, and follow up on submitted claims to ensure prompt payment.
    • Address denied or rejected claims by investigating and correcting errors.
    • Resubmit corrected claims as needed and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Patient Billing and Support:
    • Generate and send patient statements in a timely manner.
    • Respond to patient inquiries regarding bills, insurance, and payment plans.
    • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and facilitate payment options.
  • Insurance Verification and Pre-authorization:
    • Verify patient insurance coverage prior to appointments and treatments.
    • Secure pre-authorization for procedures and medications as required.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of billing activities and generate financial reports for management.
    • Identify and report trends in claims denials or delays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in neurology or a specialty practice.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance guidelines, including Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
