FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) grants.

About the position:
The primary purpose of the Healthy Communities Coordinator position is to work in coordination and collaboration with local agencies, food systems partners, and community residents to plan, implement, and evaluate policy, systems, and environmental change interventions to increase healthy food access and physical activity opportunities for individuals with limited income.
The position will facilitate and coordinate with key food systems stakeholders, partnerships, and collaborations that reduce silos, increase resident voice, and maximize the impact of this work.
Additionally, this position will work closely with statewide colleagues on building healthy community initiatives, including complementary plans, collaborative training, and professional development opportunities, and aligned evaluation as appropriate.
In Brown County, this position will focus on healthy food access in the areas of:
  • Developing a county plan for equitable emergency food distribution during a public emergency
  • Assessing food security and implementing related strategies in Brown County as part of the County Health Improvement Plan process
  • Working with community organizations and agencies to collaboratively address food insecurity in Brown County

Responsibilities:

Develops and delivers public health informational programs and materials using the tenets of public health to educate the public and other health professionals, promote the health of the population, and advocate for improved health resources and policies.
  • 20% Advocates for and disseminates health resources, policies, and safety information with educational materials and programs to appropriate entities to educate the public and health professionals
  • 10% Collects and analyzes data by conducting research to improve public health programs and services
  • 20% Develops materials, resources, and policies that support healthy behaviors and environments and informs, educates, and empowers the campus and community about environmental health and mental health issues
  • 10% Directs grant and grant-funded public health programs and campaigns on established topics.
    May research, write, and manage grants as needed to support outreach, policies, and programming
  • 25% Participates in public health committees as needed
  • 10% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the program
  • 5% Communicates plans, activities, and achievements to the Area Extension Director, Program Managers, partners, and relevant stakeholders
