GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

This individual will serve as a business analyst for administrative and academic offices to enhance service, improve efficiency and increase data integrity across systems. Our core systems (Ellucian Colleague ERP) share common elements with critical secondary SaaS systems, such as departmental curriculum software, teaching and learning systems, scheduling applications, and CRM's, which need to be synchronized in a timely manner to serve our constituents. This individual will advance departmental reporting capabilities and provide training and support to report writers. Developing and maintaining integration, and partnering with users to align business processes, reporting, and technology, are all essential for academic and administrative departments to function efficiently and deliver a high level of service to students.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides integration between enterprise systems to enhance the service to students and other constituents and eliminate duplicate entry.
  • Interacts with users to identify requirements and resolve problems.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of new and existing programs/systems by comparing results with original proposals or need.
  • Defines, develops and analyzes systems for business applications.
  • Reviews, implements and/or revises existing or new systems.
  • Increases data integrity between systems through timely integration
  • Works with offices and departments to improve business processes to increase efficiencies.
  • Develops interfaces between core ERP systems including the student information, customer relationship management, human resources, payroll, advancement, recruiting, document management, learning management, and other services and systems to support teaching, learning, and administrative operations.
  • Provides integration support between systems such as content management, field placement tracking, and electronic health records systems.
  • Assists end-users and the Enterprise Database Administrator in incorporating use of the Operational Data Store into business processes and to meet reporting needs.
  • Provides ongoing training to the campus community.
  • Responds to requests to assist others in developing complicated reports.


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with UIS staff to troubleshoot any problems with University systems.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of data by coordinating and monitoring all requests for data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


JOB SCOPE:

  • Provides Business Analyst services to all areas of the university focusing on using technology to increase efficiencies and enhance services to students and other key constituents. Assists departments in identifying and analyzing options and recommends business process enhancements. Provides leadership in improving system integration, working closely with departments to identify problem areas and finding solutions. The Operational Data Store (ODS) will be a primary reporting tool to aggregate data and report from the many software systems. This position will focus on developing cross-platform reporting tools and train individuals in development and effective distribution of reports.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Documented two years of experience as business analyst and/or systems or applications analyst
  • Two years programming experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field preferred
  • Three years of work experience integrating third-party and cloud vendor resources into enterprise applications preferred
  • Experience in supporting Ellucian Colleague ERP desirable
  • Work experience with customer relationship management systems such as Microsoft CRM products and enterprise content management systems such as Softdocs Etrieve desirable
  • Work experience in higher education desirable


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:

  • Develops, documents and implements technical and operational business process procedures.
  • Coordinates development of interfaces using Ellucian Envision, ASP.NET Web API, web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript: experience in one or more of these languages or platforms is preferred.
  • Communicates with students, faculty, staff and the public appropriate to the age of the individual served.
  • Builds on basic learning and carries it from one situation to another.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Asks questions and seeks assistance.
  • Takes responsibility to eliminate the source of problems.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders.
  • Maintains proper appearance and personal conduct for the employees particular job.
  • Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment.
