Our construction client is seeking an experienced Business Manager to lead accounting operations and office administration for multiple related companies. This hands‑on leader will oversee day‑to‑day financial activities, ensure accurate reporting, support payroll and compliance, and guide operational processes for a 50+ person construction team. The ideal candidate preferably brings construction accounting experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead a team in a fast‑paced, multi‑responsibility environment. Responsibilities Construction Accounting Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, general ledger accuracy and reconciliations, cash receipts, and bank reconciliations. Prepare all financial entries and documentation. Prepare month‑end close and prepare timely, accurate financial statements. Maintain job cost accounting, including tracking labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead by project. Prepare Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and over/under billing analysis. Manage progress billing. Review and finalize client invoices; ensure completeness and proper documentation. Track and reconcile retainage (receivable and payable). Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis for pricing and project decisions. Coordinate documentation for audits (insurance, 401k, year‑end financial statements, overhead) and external tax preparation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements, including payroll and sales tax filings. Payroll & Operations Management Prepare payroll and ensure accurate integration with accounting records. Assist with onboarding, training, and HR documentation for the accounting function. Oversee general office operations and improve administrative processes. Support leadership with reporting, communication, and operational needs. Manage multiple projects and priorities with strong planning and organizational skills. Qualifications 3+ years of full‑time accounting experience, with construction industry experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. 1+ year of supervisory or management experience preferred. Experience with job cost accounting, WIP schedules, progress billing, and construction financial reporting. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial analysis. Strong Excel skills; experience with Starbuilders preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
