Job Title: Poultry Buyer
Department: Procurement / Supply Chain
Reports To: Purchasing Manager or Director of Supply Chain
Job Summary
The Poultry Buyer is responsible for sourcing high-quality poultry products at competitive prices while ensuring a steady supply chain. This role involves analyzing market trends, negotiating contracts with farmers and vendors, and maintaining rigorous quality and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Sourcing & Procurement: Identify and vet new poultry suppliers. Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules to ensure cost-efficiency.
- Market Analysis: Monitor poultry market trends, pricing dynamics (like the USDA market reports), and supply chain disruptions to forecast future needs and adjust purchasing strategies.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure all products meet health, safety, and company-specific standards (e.g., HACCP compliance).
- Inventory Management: Manage stock levels to prevent overstocking or shortages. Coordinate with logistics to track shipments and ensure timely arrival of fresh products.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain long-term, professional relationships with suppliers, farmers, and wholesalers.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all transactions, purchase orders, and supplier performance metrics.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Experience: Typically 2–5 years of experience in procurement, ideally within the food or agricultural industry.
- Technical Skills: * Proficiency in ERP or inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
- Strong data analysis skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to make quick decisions under market pressure.
- Knowledge of poultry breeds, farming practices, and processing standards.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel to farms, auctions, or processing plants for on-site inspections and audits.
- Occasional work in cold-storage environments or agricultural settings.
