Job Description

Bring designs to life—at scale.
The CAD Manager plays a critical leadership role in transforming architectural vision into precision-engineered, fabrication-ready metal products. Leading a team of CAD professionals, this role owns the accuracy, efficiency, and manufacturability of all design outputs for custom architectural branding elements such as metal awnings, trellises, and specialty structures.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives at the intersection of design, engineering, and manufacturing—setting CAD standards, improving workflows, and ensuring every drawing that hits the shop floor is ready to build.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and prioritize the daily work of CAD drafters.
  • Lead, train, mentor, and formally manage CAD team members, including performance reviews, coaching, and skill development.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex CAD, modeling, or detailing challenges.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce CAD standards, templates, layering conventions, and best practices across AutoCAD and Fusion 360.
  • Manage CAD software systems, licenses, updates, and integrations.
  • Establish and maintain part libraries, parametric models, blocks, and standard details for metal components.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, workflows, and automation opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the creation and control of 2D drawings and 3D models for custom architectural metal products.
  • Review and approve drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability prior to release.
  • Ensure designs meet structural requirements, fabrication capabilities, and installation constraints.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and maintain revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Partner with Engineering, Sales, and Project Management to support custom design requests and customer submittals.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Installation teams to resolve design issues and improve fabrication and field outcomes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce errors, rework, and design cycle time.
  • Communicate clearly and constructively with team members and leadership to foster teamwork and accountability.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of CAD experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment; architectural or structural metal experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2D detailing) and Fusion 360 (3D modeling and assemblies).
  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes including cutting, forming, welding, and finishing.
  • Experience producing fabrication-ready drawings, shop drawings, and installation details.
  • Proven experience leading, training, and mentoring CAD professionals.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
