CALTRANS MAINTENANCE AREA SUPERINTENDENT Apply
Under the direction of Branch Chief of Maintenance Field Support, a Caltrans Maintenance Manager I, the incumbent is responsible for instruction and training of Caltrans employees (entry level through Maintenance Manager II). Training responsibilities include but not limited to the proper use, operation, servicing, minor repair and adjustment of automotive and maintenance equipment used in Caltrans maintenance work; Defensive Driver Training for field Maintenance; Heat Illness Prevention Training; Valley Fever Prevention Training; Maintenance Employee Safety Orientation; Protection of Workers and Temporary Traffic Control Training; First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); Respiratory Protection; Ladder Safety; Hazard Communication (HazComm); Injury and Illness Prevention Program; and other training as required by Departmental Policy and Legal Mandate. The incumbent develops and delivers training courses and materials, researches course content and evaluates the performance of students. The incumbent may also assist the Branch Chief of Maintenance Field Support, with planning, organizing, and completing work assignments and reports. The incumbent acts as Lead Instructor during training sessions at various locations. The incumbent must obtain and maintain all trainer certifications necessary to instruct for the scope of courses indicated. Possession of a valid, unrestricted Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required to enable the incumbent to provide equipment training.

Working Conditions
Position located in District 11/Maintenance Staff Support Division - San Diego, San Diego County
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at the base of operation, the incumbent works in a climate-controlled office or classroom under artificial light. During the process of completing office assignments, prolonged sitting at a desk under artificial light while using a personal computer is required. Due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate.
The incumbent is also required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, extreme heat or cold. Travel requires the incumbent to spend long periods of time in a vehicle driving to remote field training locations or flying on commercial airlines.
The work week is the 5/40 work shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The incumbent may be required to work overtime, work irregular shifts/alternate work schedules including nights, holidays, and weekends; may be required to work temporary and/or intermittent varied work shifts, and be required to respond to emergency situations and calls. Abnormal shifts and long hours including Saturdays and Sundays, is required to work in a fluctuating field training schedule. Field training schedules may vary based on District demands. Extensive travel may be required on an irregular basis. Possession of a valid drivers license is required to operate a State owned or leased vehicle.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltranss evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employees designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
