Job Type: Full-time
Level: Mid-level (1 2 years' experience)

Position overview

The Cath Lab Technologist (Rad Tech) supports interventional cardiologists and the cath lab team by providing high-quality imaging, hemodynamic monitoring, and scrub/monitor assistance during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. This mid-level position is designed for technologists with current CVT, ARRT, or RCIS credentials who can function independently in a fast-paced invasive cardiology environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist physicians during cardiac catheterizations, coronary and peripheral angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, and related interventional procedures, within scope of practice.

  • Perform scrub, monitor, and/or circulate roles as assigned, including sterile field setup, instrument and catheter handling, and contrast injection support per protocol.

  • Operate fluoroscopic and cardiovascular imaging equipment to obtain optimal images while minimizing radiation exposure according to ALARA principles.

  • Monitor and document hemodynamic data, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, communicating changes promptly to the physician and RN.

  • Prepare patients for procedures by verifying identity, reviewing history, explaining procedures, and ensuring appropriate consent and pre-procedure labs.

  • Assist with vascular access site management, including maintaining sterility, applying pressure, dressing changes, and monitoring for bleeding or complications.

  • Maintain accurate procedure documentation in the EHR, including supplies used, radiation time/dose, medications, and hemodynamic recordings.

  • Follow radiation safety, infection control, and cath lab policies, and support equipment QC, stocking, and room turnover.

Required qualifications
  • Current CVT, ARRT, or RCIS credential (e.g., ARRT Radiography or Cardiac Interventional; Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist).

  • ACLS certification required within 90 days of start; BLS required per facility policy.

  • 1 2 years of cath lab, cardiovascular, or closely related interventional imaging experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with cardiovascular imaging equipment, sterile technique, and hemodynamic monitoring.

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure, procedure-driven environments.

Core competencies
  • Invasive cardiovascular imaging and hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

  • Scrub/monitor support with strong sterile technique, radiation safety, and equipment operation.

  • Accurate procedural documentation, patient monitoring, and timely communication with the cath lab team.

  • Professionalism, adaptability, and patient-centered care in a high-acuity setting.
