The Museum is governed by a 13-member board of active trustees, with assistance from committees comprised of membership and the community at-large.

Position Summary:
The Administrative Coordinator will function as museum manager and is responsible to the Board of Trustees. This position provides management of the Museum to included operating hours, community relations, events, exhibits management, and facilities management.

The position is an on-site, permanent/part-time job that is not eligible for remote work on a regular or ongoing basis. The position requires a Thursday-Saturday schedule with other days and evenings as needed, generally working 30 hours per week.

How You Add Value

  • Oversee day-to-day administrative needs of the museum and museums office; serves as point person for general operations procedures and public engagement including, but not limited to, e-mail correspondence, website maintenance, preparing bank deposits, collecting and distributing mail.
  • Assist preparation, posting and notification of agendas and meeting minutes, and maintain such in accordance with the Texas Open Records Act.
  • Provide data-entry and development of record keeping protocol for various museum functions utilizing the museums database and point-of-sale software.
  • Ensure museum and museum public spaces and exhibits are prepared for daily operations and events.
  • Assist in grant writing, or others who are involved in grant writing, to procure funding for exhibits or operations.
  • Monitor compliance with contracts and service commitments with Executive Board.
  • Work closely with Trustees to identify and track outcomes for each program.
  • Assist implementation, awareness, and marketing initiatives to community outreach, volunteer recruitment, fund development, and membership.
  • Serve as liaison to the Trustees and work closely with City of Cedar Hill staff and select boards to plan for organization growth and development.
  • Ensure that the Board of Trustees is informed on important issues, including but not limited to trends, risk management, potential liability, and policy changes.
  • Ensure Trustees receive all information connected to their governance role in providing oversight for the museum.
  • Attend all Board of Trustees meetings.
  • Identify, join, and attend appropriate leadership networks that build the museum and improve awareness of it in Cedar Hill and statewide museum community.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in arts administration, museum studies, history, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Functional (3 5 years), progressively responsible experience in the organization and management of a natural history, anthropology, history, and/or fine arts museum.
  • Verifiable supervisory experience with professional and support staff, and/or volunteers.
  • Supplemental coursework in management, business, or public administration is preferred.
