The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports the delivery of quality healthcare within the physician department, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. This role involves clinical and administrative tasks, direct patient interactions, and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care:
- Greet and prepare patients for office visits or outpatient procedures.
- Obtain vital signs and patient weight; update problem and medication lists.
- Assist providers with procedures and perform phlebotomy as needed.
- Administer immunizations, injections, and screenings (vision and hearing).
Clinical Support:
- Ensure instruments are sterilized and charts are complete.
- Perform lab testing and maintain yearly competency.
- Make referrals, prescription calls, and complete medication prior authorizations.
- Monitor patient charts and assist with electronic chart preparation.
- Schedule outpatient tests, procedures, and communicate via secure messaging.
Administrative Duties:
- Collect quality data and maintain inventory management.
- Comply with hospital policies, HIPAA, and CMS regulations.
- Provide support to other physician offices as needed.
- Certification: CMA or RMA within 90 days of hire (if graduated from an accredited program).
- Education/Training: Certified Medical Assistant degree or equivalent.
- Experience: On-the-job training of one year with completed competency.
- Skills: Strong multitasking abilities and excellent communication skills.
- Frequent lifting of up to 35 lbs; occasional pushing/pulling of up to 100 lbs.
- Regular walking, standing, kneeling, and bending.
- Fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and visual acuity required.
- Exposure risk: Category I potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local healthcare regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital standards.
- Address compliance or confidentiality concerns promptly through proper channels.
