Certified Nurse MidwifeThe midwife is responsible for providing quality care to patients while under the supervision of a licensed physician.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPractice medicine within the scope of license, training, and credentialingPractice medicine in accordance with current standards of carePractice medicine in accordance with the quality criteria adopted by the Medical Staff BylawsPromote a safety-conscious workplaceEvaluate and follow up with patientsComplete patient charting and required paperwork in a timely mannerEducate patients on reproductive health, preparation for parenthood, and antenatal carePerform patient vital signs and order diagnostic tests as neededCounsel expectant mothers on birthing plans, including hospital care, birthing centers, and other optionsPromote emotional care of mothers during birthArrange prenatal planning and care for mothersCoach mothers through the birthing processPerform vaginal deliveriesTend to the health and well-being of both baby and motherParticipate in the development and/or review of office policies and support the Practice Manager as neededDemonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served, with a strong working knowledge of growth and development principles across the life spanAttend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-servicesDemonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient careEducation and ExperienceMinimum Required Education: Master's degree from an accredited School of Nursing; graduate of a certified nurse midwife education program accredited by the American College of Nurse MidwivesExperience: 2+ years as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) preferredCertificates, Licenses, and Registrations Applicant must possess a current, unrestricted license to work as a nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, AMCB certification, current DEA certification without restrictions, and BLS certification.Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
