Position: Pharmacy Tech - In Patient Pharmacy
Location: Salida, CO 81201
Pay scale: $40-$41/hr
Shift: Average 32 hours/week and cover up to 1 weekend a month. Weekend Day 6:00 p.m Friday-6:00 a.m. Monday = $2.00/ hr
The technician needs experience with sterile compounding and automated dispensing cabinet maintenance (preferably Pyxis).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- A certification from the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
Inpatient Pharmacy Duties
Direct dispensing
Accurately selects the correct drug and dispenses the correct quantity when preparing medications.
c. Demonstrates reasonable knowledge of and complies with regulations governing the practice of pharmacy
d. Exhibits knowledge of pharmacy calculations, expected drug knowledge
e. Automated dispensing cabinet (ADM) restocking and inventory management
Fills ADMs per refill reports and as needed
Analyzes daily discrepancy reports and notifies leadership of any discrepancies that cannot be cleared
Removes expired stock from ADMs
Contacts technical support to resolve ADM issues
Medication carts and kit refilling and management
Emergency carts are maintained with in-date medications
Patient care area kits are stocked for caseloads as defined by end users
Posts charges for medications used from any and all kits
Sterile compounding of non-hazardous and hazardous medication
Completes sterile compounding competencies
Utilize DoseEdge for sterile compounding
Analyze the daily IV run to minimize delays and nurse prepared admixtures
Accurately performs non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding
Properly document dispensing activities as required by pharmacy policies, local, state and federal regulations
Promptly answers the phone and greets colleagues in a friendly and courteous manner
Files and maintains daily reports that document technician and pharmacy operations
Maintain infusion patients' charts with current orders placed in the infusion order folder by scheduling
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in dispensing medications and ensuring accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Maintain a well-organized and efficient pharmacy workflow.
- Prepare and label medications, ensuring proper dosage and packaging.
- Manage inventory, restocking medications, and verifying expiration dates.
- Communicate with healthcare professionals and patients to clarify prescription information.
- Adhere to pharmacy laws, regulations, and safety protocols.
Requirements:
- A certification from the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy is required.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software and prescription processing.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Adherence to safety protocols and infection control measures.
