You are the unsung hero of the operating room, ensuring that every surgical procedure runs smoothly and efficiently. From setting up the OR to assisting the surgical team, your work is crucial to patient safety. You prepare and maintain sterile equipment, anticipate the needs of the surgeon, and ensure that the operating room is a safe and organized space. Your toolkit? Sterile instruments, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations. Your superpower? Ensuring that every tool is in the right place at the right time, creating a seamless environment for life-saving surgeries. Your presence in the OR means that surgeries are performed without a hitch, helping patients recover faster and with fewer complications.

You have or are in the process of obtaining a Texas state license, and you're excited to join a growing team in a supportive environment.

What You’ll Do

The key duties of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), often referred to as a surgical tech, include the following responsibilities:
  1. Preparing the Operating Room (OR): CSTs ensure that the operating room is properly set up with sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgeries. They prepare the sterile field and ensure all necessary items are sterilized and in place for the procedure.

  2. Assisting During Surgery: CSTs work closely with surgeons, passing them instruments and other sterile supplies during the procedure. They anticipate the surgeon's needs to keep the procedure running smoothly and efficiently.

  3. Maintaining Sterility: CSTs are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room. This includes ensuring that all instruments and supplies remain sterile throughout the surgery and that sterile protocols are followed by all team members.

  4. Handling Surgical Instruments: A major duty of a CST is to manage and handle the instruments used during surgery. They ensure that instruments are correctly prepared, used, and accounted for before, during, and after the surgery.

  5. Postoperative Duties: After the procedure, CSTs assist in cleaning the operating room, processing the instruments, and restocking supplies for future surgeries. They may also be responsible for preparing specimens to be sent to labs for analysis​​.

These core responsibilities ensure that surgeries run smoothly and patients receive safe and efficient care.
