  • Infants (6 weeks to 15 months) - $133 weekly, $27 daily
  • Toddlers (15 months to 2 yrs) - $126 weekly, $26 daily
  • 2 years to 3 years - $119 weekly, $25 daily
  • 4 years to 5 years - $112 weekly, $23 daily

HMC includes a 25-bed acute care hospital, 59-bed nursing home, 70-bed assisted and independent living facility, 34,000 square foot Wellness Center, the Midwest Vascular Institute, and four satellite doctor's offices in area towns. Hopedale Medical Complex offers virtually the same services as many larger, city hospitals, including: a 5 bed 24-hour emergency room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), general and vascular surgery departments, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, urology, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, sports medicine, mammography, open magnetic imaging resonance (MRI), computed tomography scanning (CT), and many of the new innovative technologies needed for modern medicine.


About the Job:


The Surgical Technologist assists the surgeon and other members of the surgical team in the completion of an assigned procedure, including the preparation of the suite and the patient. The Surgical Technologist must function well within the principles and practice of aseptic technique. Call is required for this position.


Responsibilities


  • Demonstrate working knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, supplies, and procedures utilized in the operating room; knowledge of exposure control plan; utilize universal precautions.
  • Maintain an orderly and sterile instrument table.
  • Assist the surgeon and team during operative and invasive procedures, while anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing count of sponges, needles, dissectors, tapes, and instruments and supplies as needed or instructed.
  • Check all equipment/instruments needed prior to each case to ensure proper functioning.
  • Clean, sterilize and replenish instruments and supplies as needed or instructed. Monitor PAR level of all instruments and supplies. Submit requisitions for replenishment to Director of Surgical Services.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable of surgeons' needs, techniques, and requirements, and prepare room accordingly. Update preference cards when necessary.
  • Transport and position the patient as directed for the procedure, while being alert to proper identification methods.
  • Identify and appropriately label specimens and cultures to be submitted to the laboratory.
  • Respond to emergency calls, as necessary.
  • Protect patient’s right to privacy as outlined in the HIPAA regulations and policy of the Hopedale Medical Complex.
  • Participate in regular in-service training and other quality assurance activities, as well as in continuing education seminars and workshops. Participate in departmental staff meetings and mandatory Complex meetings.
  • Record treatments, comments, and notations as necessary on the appropriate patient chart, alert other personnel of problems, orders, and other pertinent information.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers, supervisor, and physicians.
  • Perform other related work as required as requested.




  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Must be eager to learn new things.
  • Current CPR certification is required.



Physical Demands

  • Work requires ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds daily, or to lift 50-100 pounds with assistance in case of emergency.
  • Work requires ability to stand, walk and kneel for 50-75% of work time.
  • Work requires ability to stoop and bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, have manual dexterity, and color vision and communicate with other people.
  • Work requires ability to use a keyboard (typewriter, work processor or computer) to enter and transform information or data daily.
  • Work requires the ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve and/or audit information and data daily.
  • Work requires ability to push and/or pull laundry or supply carts, gurneys, or wheelchairs on a regular basis.




Compensation details: 27-30 Hourly Wage
