Chemical Production Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to support our chemical manufacturing operations. The role focuses on driving continuous improvement and lean initiatives, optimizing processes for safety, quality and throughput, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading capital projects. The ideal candidate will collaborate across operations, maintenance, quality and engineering teams to implement sustainable process improvements and deliver measurable performance gains.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve safety, yield, throughput and cost efficiency.
- Identify, scope and execute process improvement projects using data-driven methods and root cause analysis.
- Design, specify and manage capital projects from concept through commissioning, coordinating with contractors, procurement and operations.
- Ensure processes and documentation comply with applicable regulations and internal standards (safety, environmental, quality).
- Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs, control plans, P&IDs and validation records.
- Support incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
- Monitor production KPIs and generate regular reports to inform management decisions and prioritize improvement efforts.
- Support process troubleshooting and provide technical guidance to operators and maintenance teams during shift and start-up activities.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (operations, quality, maintenance, procurement) to plan and execute process changes with minimal production impact.
- Provide training and mentorship to plant personnel on process changes, best practices and continuous improvement tools.
- Manage relationships with vendors and contractors for equipment installation, upgrades and commissioning.
- Assist with SAP-related activities such as work orders, BOM updates and production reporting as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in chemical manufacturing or a related process industry with demonstrated process improvement results.
- Proven experience in Continuous Improvement, Lean manufacturing and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen).
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to chemical production (environmental, safety and quality standards).
- Experience managing capital projects, including project definition, budgeting, scheduling and commissioning.
- Excellent analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools to drive decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and present technical information clearly.
- Familiarity with process documentation (SOPs, P&IDs, control plans) and change control procedures.
- Proactive problem-solver who can work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and prioritize multiple initiatives.
- SAP experience and knowledge of phosphate esters are desirable but not required.
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent training is a plus.
- Willingness to work occasional off-shift hours for project support and to respond to operational needs.
