Opened in 1986, New Horizons Village is a welcoming apartment complex, offering adults with physical disabilities the opportunity for self-directed living. We are located on 26 picturesque acres in a quiet residential neighborhood in the Farmington Valley. The village is just twenty minutes southwest of Hartford.
New Horizon’s mission is to provide affordable housing, accessible transportation, other support services, short-term and outpatient medical rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing in supportive communities of care and enable seniors, adults with disabilities and individuals facing challenges to achieve their goals and live life as independently and joyfully as possible.
PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION:
Financial Advisor to Chief Executive Officer on issues affecting day-to-day and future decision-making. Manages New Horizons Village, Inc., Accounting Department. Directs financial positioning of corporation. Monitors financial activities of Cherry Brook. Supervises up to five employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Financial Counsel to Board of Directors in periodic meetings, as Management Representative to Finance Committee, and on special projects when requested.
- Responsible for preparation of Annual Cost Report.
- Responsible for daily cash management and cash flow projections.
- Provides financial advisement in decisions of investments.
- Provides financial advisement regarding insurance, including contract engagement and claims negotiations.
- Responsible for accounting functions of New Horizons Village and New Horizons, Inc., which includes general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, PCA disbursements, budgeting and taxes.
- Responsible for financial related projects such as organizational refinancing, development, or expansion.
- Responsible for financial aspect of Middlebury Housing and overall advisor from operational perspective.
- Provides financial assistance and analysis for Cherry Brook Health Care Center as requested.
- Provides financial support as requested, when necessary, with outside government authorities such as DSS, DECD, and other State/Federal departments.
- Lead contact with DSS regarding related rental income, via per diem rate.
- Responsible for quarterly and annual financial statements which are issued to external parties such as CHEFA, DSS, CHFA, investors, etc.
- Responsible for monitoring of covenant compliance with outside agencies such as CHEFA, DOH and DECD.
- Responsible for 401(k) plan reporting, contributions and distributions.
- Ultimate liaison with outside auditors.
- Oversees collection of revenue (rent), resolves difficulties, promotes full occupancy.
- Authorized signatory on all company checks.
- Oversees financial counseling service of residents.
- Directs subordinates regarding their function, performance, productivity and career development.
- Supports Development Activities, including grant applications and reporting.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in finance office area as well as throughout the facility and its premises.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with personnel, tenants, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus a minimum of 10 years industry experience, or relevant master’s degree in accounting plus 8 years industry experience, or a combination of degree plus experience. CPA certification preferred.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- CPA certification preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills required.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
