Overview
We are hiring a City Engineer to lead the planning, design, and management of municipal infrastructure projects. The role oversees water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, parks, and facility systems. It ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while supporting contractors, consultants, residents, and city leadership. This position plays a key role in long term planning and the successful delivery of capital improvement projects.

Responsibilities
• Oversee design, review, and implementation of municipal and capital improvement projects.
• Manage contracts and coordinate services with engineers, consultants, contractors, and utilities.
• Conduct pre construction meetings and monitor field activities for compliance and quality.
• Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, and change orders.
• Prepare cost estimates, reports, and technical documentation.
• Develop long term infrastructure plans for water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, parks, and facilities.
• Support annual budget preparation and forecasting for capital needs.
• Track and approve project expenditures.
• Pursue grants and alternative funding opportunities with city leadership.
• Ensure compliance with all regulations, permits, and policies.
• Coordinate development review and infrastructure impacts with other departments.
• Conduct site inspections and issue permits.
• Provide technical guidance to City Council, committees, and public groups.
• Supervise staff and support hiring, training, and evaluation.
• Serve as Acting Public Works Director when needed.
• Represent the city at regional organizations and interagency meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

• Professional Engineer license required.

• Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience.

• At least 2 years of supervisory or administrative project management experience.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and GIS.

• Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure and construction management.

• Ability to interpret engineering plans, contracts, and technical documents.

• Strong communication, leadership, and decision making skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
